We’re looking for a great part-time reporter-writer.
We’re covering the health care marketplace by answering questions like this: What does stuff cost in health care? Why do prices vary so much? Why are those bills so confusing? What can you do to get the care you need without bankrupting yourself?
Our tools: reporting, crowdsourcing, data diving, interactives and mapping.
What you’ll be doing:
- Reporting and writing about health costs
- Data journalism
- Some community development and social media, including analytics to see what’s working to fulfill our goals
- We’re also doing crowdsourcing, so expertise in that art form is desirable
The ideal candidate will also have some of these tools or skills:
- Familiarity with WordPress, Google analytics or WordPress analytics
- Data background, including managing and sorting data via Excel or other tools
- Experience with MailChimp, Twitter and Facebook to help us in developing our community, and our conversation with the people formerly known as the audience
- Other tech skills including software development, MySQL, Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS
Part-time for now. Proudly based in New York City. and for this role, you need to be in NYC—for a day or two a week, we will be asking you to join us on a reporting project that involves phone work.
Pay commensurate with experience.

As consulting product manager, you will focus on increasing the engagement and profitability of existing products and developing new products. You will build products from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on experience and your contact with customers and prospects. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand customers’ problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader market.
You must be an all-around athlete, able to work with developers, with journalists, with marketing and sales groups. You will work with marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering, occasionally working with the sales channel and key customers.
A product manager’s key role is strategic, not tactical.
Health-care experience not required.
