Summary: We’re thrilled to announce our crowdfunding campaign over on the new iFundWomen website. We’re raising money to make our website better for people who come to us on smartphones and tablets, like iPads. Why? We get 60 percent of our traffic on mobile, up from 40 percent when we built the site, and we need to be better for our mobile users. You can read all about it here on our iFundWomen page, where you’ll also find the movie shown here. Please contribute! Your support is deeply appreciated, and it will take us to the next level. Also — please look at the other 16 powerful women-founded companies that are part of this beta class with us.
More about our specific project:
What we are raising money for: We are making our home website easier to use on smartphones and tablets, like iPads.
Why?
Among our most-read posts are those on the cost of birth-control pills, an STD test, an IUD and an abortion – on Saturday and Sunday mornings, on mobile (smartphones and tablets, like iPads). We know you’re reading us on mobile devices, and we need to improve your experience when you come to us using mobile.
Thank you so much for your support!
More about iFundWomen: The idea is to give women access to money. As you know, women-owned companies struggle to get even a tiny piece of funding.
IFundwomen was founded by Karen Cahn and her team at vproud.tv.
iFundWomen is a crowdfunding platform designed exclusively for women-led business and their creative ideas. The mission of iFundWomen is to drive funding for minimum viable products, pilots, and prototypes to budding and established female-led startups.
iFundWomen is a new approach to crowdfunding. Every project is vetted to maximize the likelihood of success and help the most innovative women realize their business goals. iFundWomen has a pay-it-forward model, directly reinvesting 20% of their fees back into live campaigns on the site. The platform offers video production services and one-on-one coaching to help entrepreneurs refine and articulate their messages.
The number of women-owned business grew 30 percent from 2007 to 2012. Despite these amazing gains, women still receive only 2 percent to 6 percent of venture capital funding. Women who are entrepreneurs need to be scrappier and work harder than their male counterparts to get funded, as they struggle to create companies with much less capital. iFundWomen is working to overcome this imbalance.
Here are some of the other companies in the iFundWomen launch:
A pelvic health handbook for girls, Below Your Belt, is being brought to life in an app. Pelvic health comes before sex ed and “The Talk,” but is barely addressed with adolescents.
Outgift is an intelligent gift recommendation service that uses big data and predictive analytics to recommend gifts people actually want based on their unique individualities”
Software Safari is a mother-daughter engineering team making social science learning apps for kids and parents
Cindy Gallop, who’s launching a social sex revolution over at makelovenotporn.tv
An app called Need/Done gives parents instant access to backup support their friends use and trust.
SheWorks Collective is a co-working collective raising money to provide up to 50 women entrepreneurs with free access to a shared workspace, event space and community for women entrepreneurs in New York City’s Union Square.
