27826 Treat lower leg fracture

I Went to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC with a broken leg. When they told me they were "out of network" with my insurance plan which I purchased through through the Affordable Care Exchange, I announced I was leaving to go where my insurance would cover the care I needed. Doctors and billing personnel in the ER intervened and asked my insurance company if Cone Hospital could be included in their network for my care. The insurance company agreed since they had no "in network" providers in the area and because I needed emergency care. I then agreed to stay there for treatment believing the "in network" rules of my policy would apply, especially the maximum "out of pocket" expense stipulated in my policy. The Insurance company ,Cigna, paid Cone the "in network " contracted rate. Cone Health then balance billed me nearly $64000. or more than 400% more than the Medicare contracted rate that they routinely receive from Medicare for the same treatment I received. I consented to no elective care.
