The going rate for a lumbar MRI in Los Angeles is under $1000. The fact that Torrance Memorial can get away with charging $7646 seems to be fraudulent. TMMC is in the Blue Shield netowrk.... The fact that Blue Shield of California accepts this charge is beyond negligent. When I checked with both the hospital and blue shield prior to the procedure what my out of pocket would be I was told that they did not yet know. I never expected to be charges OOP over $1500 for a basic lumbar MRI. No wonder our health care system is so screwed up. I could have paid cash for this procedure and saved at least $1000. Shame on Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Blue Shield of CA.
