From what i can tell on the results you approach and results are faulty. Surgery is very difficult to predict unless you have medicare which are the only standard rates but differ in themselves base on wage index of area you reside in. In additional your surgery takes a team of individuals who each have their own provider number to bill from. A typical Surgery has a physician's fee, the facility's fee and most likely you anesthesiologist's fee and/or technical fees. You may have lab/ancillary fees (for preoperative testing for clearance) , DME fees or IDTF (independent diagnostic testing facility fees) from what i can tell you are only educating the public on the physician fee (Medicare) schedule from the CPT code I looked up for Carpal Tunnel 64721, 64483 common pain management procedure and 25881 a common knee scope. Thus creates the difficult of understanding cost of a procedure that only consist of one CPT code. Some procedures to fix areas may be more complicated and thus be able to charge multiple CPT codes which can double the charges for procedures. Once this happens all the other people involved in the surgery begin to be able to charge the additional cptcodes and the anesthesiologist get to add more time fee in 15 minute increments. There is no way to predict with certainty the cost of surgery. You can come close and yes it varies quite dramatically but all of this was created by insurance companies negotiating different fees schedules with different health care facilities and doctors base on volumes. To hang on to profit margins healthcare providers increase fees because some of their contracts were based on % of fees charged..........and on and on

Ave cost on the high end is $6000; my insurance paid the full amount, not allowed or contracted amount; when I called to inquire payment they reportedly paid a smaller contracted amount. I asked for a new EOB; when I received it , it was the same as the original EOB. Hospitals are as complicit as insurance and pharmaceutical companies

I was told the surgical center was in network. They demanded over $2,000 when I arrived for surgery, with no previous notice. I objected and they reduced it by $1,000. My stay was approx. 2 hours. My insurance paid their out of network contribution, and I then received a demand for payment of $22,963.04. I wrote to my surgeon complaining as he is associated with this facility. I was assured this was a mistake and would be corrected. I received the same invoice again 6 months later, with an authorization to enable the facility to try again under my husband’s name. I refused to sign. The surgeon again told me it would “go away”. Thus far it would appear that it has.
