(Updated 2022) Searching for abortion prices? We’re often asked how people use our data. One of our most visited posts is this one on “how much does an abortion cost?” This is information that’s hard to find, and we see that a lot of our visitors are typing this into their search bar — or some variant of this wording — particularly on Saturday and Sunday mornings, on smartphones and other mobile devices like iPads and similar tablets.
A lot of the visitors are from college campuses. Here’s a partial census from three days in early November of the networks that sent us people seeking abortion pricing, collected from our web analytics:
Arizona Tri University Network, Austin College, Bard College, Binghamton State University, Boston University, Bryn Mawr College, California State University at Sacramento, California State University, Central Methodist University, Colgate University, Dartmouth College, Drew University, East-West University, ECPI Colleges in Virginia Beach, Emory University, Fordham University.

Others seeking abortion prices
If you didn’t see your college or university, it is simply because no one from there came on one of these three days. If I’d picked another three days, it might well have been your college or university. Also, with our web analytics tools, sometimes people on mobile phones are visible to us only as users from “ATT” or “Brighthouse Networks” or some other mobile provider, not from the university network.
Other visitors seeking abortion pricing in that period: Emirates Communications, from the United Arab Emirates. MTN Nigeria, from Nigeria. Cablemas from Yucatan, Mexico. Globacom in Nigeria. Reliance Jio from Delhi, India. Safaricom from Kenya. Viva Bahrain, from Bahrain. Vodafone-Libertel from The Netherlands. Teliasonera Finland Novi. Internet Bermuda Ltd. Hinet.net in Taipei, Taiwan. Korea Telecom.
What I didn’t include in this census: Public school districts, public libraries, other U.S. and local government visitors, many of the international visitors.
Many of the visitors have some variation of “abortion cost” in a search that lands them on our pages. (Google no longer shows the exact search terms, so what we see when we are analyzing the searches is search queries from Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo and other search engines.)
Many of these visitors come back several times; we can imagine women sitting at a laptop, alone or together with a friend, maybe a boyfriend. Searching. In Riga, Latvia, at 20 weeks? In Minnesota at 21 weeks? California, N.J., N.Y., Texas?
The terms are a catalog of anxiety and unhappiness. We are glad to be able to relieve that anxiety, even in some small measure, by making information available. We can guess that some of the visitors are saying to a friend, “He says he’ll pay for the abortion, but I don’t know what it costs” or “I have to borrow money — can you help me out?”
Among our most-read posts are those on the cost of birth-control pills, an STD test, an IUD and an abortion – on Saturday and Sunday mornings, on mobile (smartphones and tablets, like iPads). We know you’re reading us on mobile devices, and we need to improve your experience when you come to us using mobile.
