This was a follow up 3-D mammogram after initial mammogram showed dense breast tissue. The first mammogram was covered at almost 100% ( 2 charges of $.01 for perf measurements were not covered ? On initial preventative mammogram). I had to pay $199.98 towards $200 deductible and $5.95 for Co - insurance? I thought as part of a well checkup the entire amount would be covered.

First mammogram found something and I was told to get a 3D digital ultra-lateral plus ultrasound. Had to paid money upfront or couldn’t get procedure done. I also thought it was covered. I can see where many women would not get this done if they do not have the funds. So much for preventive screening and early cancer detection!

I had not gone in several years because I don’t like it and it is expensive. I am 52. I figured I should suck it up and go. I HOPE that I don’t get a notice in the future that I have to pay because of a copay or some deductibles that I haven’t met.

On 4-18-18, I went for my annual mammogram. Amount billed was $567.00 but the member rate was 396.90 which my insurance paid in full. I was contacted by the facility that "my pictures were not clear", and I needed to have tests done over. On 5-2-18, I returned for my mammogram. I was billed for $556.50. I did protest this with the insurance company and was denied. They said it was not considered routine. I even went back to the facility and asked why I was told the "pictures were not clear" and made to believe that I was still having my annual tests redone? I was told, " we don't like to worry anyone unnecessarily. I did end up paying not only $556.50, but also $116.72 for the ultrasound.

I went for my yearly mamamogram and was called back a few days later, with the hospital saying the test was incomplete. I needed to come back for a second test. They did an ultra sound on left breast. I received bill for 633.00 i called insurance company, hospital, and Doctor. At this time I have not paid this bill.

I had initial 3D mammogram on 5/8/19. I have dense breast tissue and therefore my Dr recommend a 3D mammogram. I have ALWAYS been called back for additional views in the past and have not been charged. I got a call back on the 9th of May letting me know that I needed an additional view. Additional view was taken on 5/10 and that is when these charges occurred.

I’m 55 and live in St. Paul Minnesota. I went in for my annual mammogram August 30, 2019. I received a 2D mammogram despite having received a letter that I have dense breast tissue and a 3D mammogram was recommended. My insurance BCBS of Illinois doesn’t cover a 3 D mammogram. Shortly after I received a call that something concerning was found (left breast asymmetry with suggestion of architectural distortion present laterally at posterior depth) and further testing was recommended with spot compression view, true lateral mammogram and possible ultrasound. It said I needed additional imaging evaluation and/or prior mammogram for comparison. I contacted my doctor and she recommended follow up procedures at the Piper Breast Center of St. Paul, Mn. My sister had breast cancer and a mastectomy at age 45 so I absolutely was going in at my doctors recommendation. September 5, 2019 I had a 3D mammogram and ultrasound done on my left breast and was told immediately after the ultrasound that I was fine and there was nothing concerning. It was obviously what was needed to get a clear image of my breast tissue. Shortly after, I received a bill from Allina for $762.96 and one from Midwest Radiology for $256.86 for a total out of pocket expense of $1,019.82. It’s outrageous that I’m expected to pay that much to get a proper as far as I’m concerned “screening” mammogram! The government, health care facilities and health insurance companies need to sync together on this! I have not paid this bill yet. I’ve made many calls to Allina and Blue Cross Blue Shield to plead my case and get these charges reversed to no avail. It makes no sense to receive a letter telling me I have dense breast tissue from my Allina clinic and that a 3D mammogram is recommended but insurance won’t cover it or any other procedures needed to get a true and proper preventative screening mammogram!

Have not paid my portion yet, it was gone to collections. I just don't have the funds. They want me to have it done again in January and July. Every 6 months for a year and a half. I will not be able to do this.
